We are one race.

We are one race: HUMAN.
We have one God: He loves us ALL.
Why waste time, looking
At the color of someone’s skin,
When you can see, instead,
The color of their heart?
We’re so much better together
Than we are apart.
-Laura Boal

I have many friends who look different from me. Some are black. Some are white. They come from all over: North America, South America, the Caribbean; Europe, Africa, the Middle East, Asia, and Australia. Then come my wonderful exchange students: Young people from five continents who all call Bob and me “Mom and Dad.” I am so grateful for every one of you! You have taught me things that I didn’t know before. We have learned together, laughed together, cried together.

I am better because of knowing you,
and I have treasured every moment.

Sometimes I just assume that everyone sees the world the way I do, and it grieves me to discover that this is not the case. For all my friends of color: For any moment when some idiot thought that they should try to make you feel like you were “less,” I am so very sorry. What were they thinking?

The fact is that we are all “other.” We are all different.

And we’re all, in fact, different from God. Actually, if you look up the word “holy,” as in: “God is holy” – that word is undefined. Literally nobody can tell you what “holy” actually means, except that it means God is different from us. That doesn’t put him off; he loves us anyway. And when we’re “ignorant,” as in: thinking that “different” means “less” – he teaches us, so that we can know better.

If we’re different from God,
and he loves us anyway,
Isn’t it time for us to learn how to love each other?
“Different” isn’t bad.
Different makes us richer.
We truly are more together than we are apart.

I ALSO want to give a shout out to the police officers in my life. You guys — at least the ones I know — you’re so dedicated. You put your lives on the line every day, because you want to make the world safer and better for ALL of us. I want to honor you. Thank you for that!

I am praying today that God will give us a spirit of unity.
That he would educate the ignorant among us.
That he will give us courageous hearts to stand for the truth.
And I am standing here in faith, and declaring the heart of God, together with my brothers and sisters, down through the ages:

Let justice roll on like a river, and righteousness like a never-failing stream!

Amos 5:24
